How to use your Security Alarm Keypad
There are three (3) main way to arm your alarm system using your alarm keypad. They are AWAY, STAY and INSTANT. Each arming mode and its use, are outlined below:
Alarm Keypad AWAY Mode
The AWAY mode of arming the alarm system allows for the user to “go away” or leave the premise through an entry/exit door and while also enabling any installed motion detectors on the system. This is the most common means of arming the alarm system when leaving the premises unoccupied. On most systems, after arming in the AWAY mode, the keypad(s) should begin making an audible countdown beep indicating that the system is arming and the premises should be vacated at this time. The countdown beep will become more rapid during the last ten seconds before the entry/exit timer has elapsed. Upon re-entry to the home through an entry/exit door, the keypad will start an audible countdown beep during which the system should be disarmed. The last ten seconds of this countdown indicated the alarm is about to active and go into alarm. After hearing this arming beep, users usually have 45 seconds to exit through a designated entry/exit door.
Alarm Keypad STAY Mode
In the STAY mode of arming the alarm system the user is wanting the security system activated while they are at home. All of your interior motion detectors on the system will not be armed. On most systems, after arming in the STAY mode, the keypad(s) will make a single audible countdown beep indicating that the system is arming. Just remember, if you open a door or window, the alarm will activate. Most window zones are instant while doors have a countdown timer allowing you to deactivate the system on the keypad without setting off the system.
Alarm Keypad INSTANT Mode
The INSTANT mode of arming the alarm system removes the entry/exit delay and renders the doors active upon arming. Any installed motion detectors are not enabled. This mode is best used when no person is expecting to come or go from the premise while the system is armed. There is no audible countdown timer and no entry exit is possible without setting the alarm off until the system is disarmed. If you have any questions, please call us or consult your alarm system owners manual.
Alarm Keypad 911 Programming available
Your keypad also can be used to signal the alarm monitoring service with a 911 emergency code. This can be using a combination of keys or a code the same as your normal code but one last digit higher.
Bypassing a zone
If you have failure of a window or door contact and can not arm the system due to this failure, you can use your keypad to bypass the device if you have “point ID”. If you do not, then you bypass the entire zone. The keypad will show you why it cannot arm. Be sure to physically check and make sure all devices in the zone are ok by checking all windows or doors. If it still is not able to arm, then bypass the zone using the manual instructions.
Test your system regularly and get to know your system so you can use it safely. Also, be sure all the users in your home or business are using the keypad correctly if they arm or disarm the system on a regular basis. Be sure your user code word is also known in the event of an accidental or actual activation. Not being able to answer correctly to the dispatcher can result in an office of the law at your door.
